When there’s dishonesty and work of the sheriff’s office is in doubt, that creates a chaotic environment. This position, like all public officials, requires that the public can trust outcomes, that our judges can trust the police and sheriff’s department testifying... that trust has been breached."

State Representative, Emerson Levy, OPB, 5/20/25

The Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) Police Policy Committee has voted unanimously to revoke van der Kamp’s certification. I now ask that Kent van der Kamp please walk away so the community can move forward."

Deschutes County Commissioner, Tony DeBone, KTVZ, 5/22/25

The Sheriff is no longer fit to serve as the top law enforcement officer for the county. He should resign immediately and cease taking a publicly paid salary, now that the panel has recommended his law enforcement credentials be revoked by DPSST. Public trust cannot be repaired at this point."

Bend Mayor, Melanie Kebler, KTVZ, 5/22/25
